Even when separated by physical distance, parents can remain emotionally present by participating in their children's daily routines through regular phone or video calls. Whether helping with homework, sharing a meal, talking before bedtime, watching a child get ready for school, celebrating birthdays, or simply checking in each day, these shared moments help parents maintain their parental identity, foster continued emotional connection with their children, and create a stronger foundation for reunification.

Connect with Life-Giving Strengths

During times of stress, separation, or uncertainty, intentionally reconnect with the people, relationships, beliefs, and experiences that bring you hope, comfort, and strength. Stay connected with your children through meaningful conversations and shared everyday moments whenever possible. Lean on loved ones, people with similar experiences, connect with your faith and community, and remind yourself of the resilience you've shown before. These Life-Giving Strengths (Fortalezas de Vida) can help you navigate difficult moments, strengthen your sense of self, and support your mental health throughout your migration journey.

Affirm Yourself and Your Efforts

During difficult moments, it can be easy to overlook everything you have done for your child. Take time to recognize your sacrifices, your efforts to stay connected, the ways you protected and provided for your family, and the love you continued to show despite being physically apart. Recognizing these efforts can strengthen your parental identity, reconnect you with your strengths, and support healing and emotional well-being.
